I have never seen this tree before by Miriam Dunn

I have never seen this tree before

I have never seen this tree before
today

I have never seen this tree before
growing outside my kitchen window
in the morning

I have never seen this chestnut tree
outside my kitchen window
in the morning
as the fog rises beneath its climbing limbs

I have never seen this chestnut tree
as the morning fog rises
toward its crown
holding the sun
between its climbing limbs like gentle arms
filling the whole of the sky
outside our kitchen window
before today

I have never seen this tree before
when I could not call to you
and say
look at the tree

I have never seen this tree before
without you

  1. I am blessed to share 2 different trees with 2 different people.
Thank you for catching our experience so closely.
