Opening show and reading Saturday June 10th 4-6 p.m. running until July 9th

“an other being”

a collaboration of the poetry of Tony Brathwaite together with the Artwork of David McConkey

at the Joe Keefe Gallery 48 Little Harbour Road Barr’d Island

Fogo Island

Newfoundland and Labrador

“an other being is many things. A collaboration between a visual artist and a poet, the work lives in dialogue. Often, David and Tony say, they surprised each other by what was

seen, what was written, what was drawn. There’s a tension in Tony’s poetry that refuses to release in easy answers, and David’s drawings come from a deeply-felt kinetic and creative connection with his own body. For over 15 years, David and Tony have been partners, and it’s not hard to read something about relationship in this work.

we dance closer together through time

ends the book. It’s a poem about death that ends up affirming life. A collaboration in the truest sense, this beautiful book does indeed birth an other being.”

– Kate Story is writer and performer with deep ties to both St John’s and Peterborough. She is the author of Blasted, among other works, and recipient of the Ontario Arts Foundation’s K.M.Hunter Award in theatre.
