Celebrating National Poetry Month
Poetry in Store Front Windows: April is National Poetry Month. The P Word Project asks shoppers, locals and visitors to celebrate the occasion by strolling along Dundas St West this April. From Keele Street to High Park Avenue, the words of 15 select poets will be prominently displayed in the storefront windows of various businesses.
Live Reading by Poets: In addition, poetry lovers will be gathering at Famous Last Words Bar 392 Pacific Ave. (Pacific Ave. just south of Dundas Street West) on Tuesday April 11 from 7 pm. Come, hear The P Word poets read their store front poems, plus other works. This event is free and open to all!
Background: The P Word Project is a neighbourhood initiative organized by Sue Bracken. Sue is a local poet who lives and writes in the Junction. In addition to being a champion of poems, poetry and the act of writing, she also recognizes the burgeoning creative community that is being fostered in the Junction.
As an active member of the Toronto poetry community, Sue has selected poets whom she has had the pleasure of personally interacting with. Similarly, these art-friendly stores are those that she regularly visits during her walks in the Junction.
Ms Bracken sincerely thanks all the poets who have submitted their poems for display, and all the stores and businesses who have graciously allowed the use of their store front windows.
