Anne Cimon

Anne Cimon is a Montreal, Quebec, poet. She has published four books of poetry including the bilingual edition An Angel around the
Corner/ Un ange autour du coin (Borealis Press, Ottawa, 2004) which reflects her French heritage.

 

Anne studied with the late Canadian poet Irving Layton who remarked of her work: "She possesses the gift for the significant detail, the right word, and the most important element of poetry, surprise."

 

Anne lived in Toronto when her first book, A Skin of Snow, was published in 1981. Her poems and novellette explore the subject of love. In 1984, Anne worked at the Longhouse Book Shop on Yonge street and she had the opportunity to learn more about Canadian literature and meet authors.

 

In Montreal, she published a second collection of poetry in 1993, No Country for Women, with Mosaic Press. This collection spoke of her love
for nature, and explored inner and outer landscapes.

 

That year, Anne was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and she eventually moved to the village of Sutton in the Eastern Townships of
Quebec to help in her recovery.

 

Her third collection, her first bilingual edition, All We Need/ Tout ce qu'il faut, was published by Borealis Press in 2002. The themes of loss
and healing intermingle in this book.

 

Anne has worked as a freelance writer for many years and her book reviews and literary articles have been published in Canadian magazines and newspapers.

 

Her most recent book is a biography, Susanna Moodie: Pioneer Author (Dundurn Press) Anne's interest in nineteenth-century literature and
women's writings  combined in this project about famous Canadians. Anne lives in Montreal and is currently at work on a new collection of
poems.
