Shillington Joan

Joan was born in Edmonton, Alberta and moved to Calgary in 1985. She began writing poetry in 1998 and it has since become a passion in her life. Married, with five children and two grandchildren, she writes overlooking the Rocky Mountains.

Joan has been published in "Room of One's Own", "Prairie Journal", "Freefall", "Grain" and University of Calgary's Anthology "Writing the Terrain". In the fall of 2002 she won first prize in "Freefall" Poetry Contest and was nominated for the Keith Wright Poetry Prize in "Green's Magazine" Winter 2000.

In her first book of poetry "Revolutions", Joan writes about the family life and court influences of Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra, as they construct their "nest" over twenty-three years of rule and their last days prisoners (Leaf Press, Fall 2008).
