Florivore by Maša Torbica

Poem name: Florivore
Poet name: Masa Torbica
Poem: When should she have known?

The first time

				she swallows her words
				to feast on profuse affection.

				*

				refused calls and letters
				trigger a barrage
				of gifts, inscribed
				with atonement,
				glutting her doorstep.

				*

				he cites rupture and repair,
				insists their reunions prove
				it’s like cutting back blossoms
				to double, deepen the bloom.

				*

				hand draws back,
				hand draws close,
				and he draws
				petal after petal,
				forming a bouquet
				under her clothes.

				*

				the petals fade,
				the pistils morph:
				red, blue, purple, bright
				yellow, light yellow. Red,

End of poem.
