Glitter

By Sally Quon

Gather whatever is glittering,

everything that collects in your heart-

sparkle of snow,

sunlight glistening on songbird wings-

all those glisters and glimmers

carrying you into joy.

Write them down.

Tuck them under your pillow

so your dreams, too, will be

filled with light.

Gather those delicate strands

of light,

braid them into a rope

strong enough to pull you back

when you find yourself close to the edge.
