Anti-harassment and accountability strategies at the League
October 21, 2025
The League is dedicated to maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment for members, staff, volunteers, and program participants, a goal that is supported by regularly reviewed inclusion and anti-harassment policies. Recently, League Board and staff have received an increased volume of hostile communications from members, including messages of bullying, condescension, and character assassination.
Each member of the Board of Directors has and will continue to lead in good faith for the organization. With this in mind, we would like to reiterate the organization’s anti-harassment standards and accountability strategies.
With the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan approaching its halfway point, the Board will continue to review League policies and strategies, with an increased attention to transparency. Members interested in becoming involved with the finance, operations, and governance of the organization are encouraged to respond to calls for Board volunteers when seats are available.
Anti-harassment
- Nobody on the League staff or Board is required to engage with aggressive, abusive, or hostile communications from members; continued abusive communications may result in a suspension of membership
- Members of the League have a right to professional communication standards from the League staff and Board
- Harassment and bullying complaints may be submitted directly to any member of the League staff or Board
Accountability
To members
- Annual budget presented each year at AGM
- Financial statements presented each year at AGM
- Programming report presented each year at AGM
- Board-reviewed policies supporting program fund disbursal
- Member-wide survey distributed every 2-3 years
- Townhalls for open forum discussion
Strategic plan
- Developed by the Board to guide the organization in line with mission, mandate, and values, and in the best interest of the membership and long-term success of the organization
- Reported on annually at the AGM, and quarterly to the Board of Directors
Within the Board of Directors
- Term limits
- Code of conduct
To the organization
- Reports to external funders
- Annual staff reviews
- Annual financial audit
It is the League’s goal to provide a reasonable level of transparency and responsiveness to members surrounding application and selection processes, finance, and governance; however, staff time is limited, and individual requests for operational transparency cannot always be accommodated.
