July 31, 2024 (Zoom): Cross-Pollinations
Join the League of Canadian Poets, the Health Arts Research Centre, and the Canadian Association for Health Humanities for the next iteration of the Cross-Pollinations Virtual Rounds Series.
July 31, 2024 | 3pm PT/6pm ET
The Wednesday, July 31, 2024 Cross-Pollinations event will feature poet Melly Davidson and cold exposure guide and herbalist Cat Turcotte for readings and a discussion on the theme of alternative care systems. Join us on July 31st for an exploration of alternative approaches to health and healing as means to foster community wellness, improve equitable access to care, and complement traditional biomedicine.
Cat Turcotte is a dedicated community worker, cold exposure guide, dancer, poet and herbalist whose writing was once a private pursuit. In 2020, she leaned into vulnerability through spoken-word poetry, embarking on a journey of continual learning, practice and storytelling. She has performed on stages hosted by Unity Charity, Right Beside You Projects, and Rise Edutainment. Her aim is to share honest reflections that foster connection, particularly for those navigating chronic pain and mental health challenges. She hopes to offer a sense of acknowledgement and encouragement on the nonlinear journey that healing can be.
Melly Davidson is a poet, educator, and multidisciplinary artist based in Tkaronto. Their work can be found in Arc Poetry Magazine, Metatron Press, Pigeon Pages, and Silverfish Magazine. Her recent work is concerned with the distortion between the silly vs serious, profane vs sacred. Melly's process is informed by collaging, screen recording, "pocket trash", internet relics, and big time collaboration.
