From the League’s Feminist Caucus:
Statement in Support of Iranian Women’s Rights and Iran’s Fight for Freedom
The Feminist Caucus of the League of Canadian Poets strongly condemns the Islamic Republic of Iran’s systemic infringements of women’s rights for more than four decades, including the arrests, torture, and killing of women, men, and children protesting for equality and freedom. We call upon Canadian and international writers’ and cultural organizations to publicly condemn the Islamic regime for its violations of women’s rights and human rights. The Feminist Caucus considers silence to be complicity with misogynist and anti-feminist theocracies that benefit sexually, financially, and politically from the subjugation of women and minorities.
