Grecian Windflower

By Jean-Paul Thuot

I stop at the edge

of the lake

as I have always done

in this moment.

The heron, there

in mid-flight

between two

breaths, while

Mist dances

ecstatic across

the water’s smooth skin.

Just this. Just this.

Where does the singing

come from all around,

speaker and spoken

prayer and prayer

saying, make this body perfect

it is the soil from which I rise

springlike, again as I always have
