October 12, 2024 (Zoom): How to Run Poetry Events, with Bänoo Zan
"How to Run Poetry Events" is a two-hour online workshop with Bänoo Zan, a dedicated event organizer in Toronto, and recent Life Member of the League! The workshop will focus on organizing and running poetry events, including a presentation, a conversation, and some exercises. In addition to Bänoo's expertise, this workshop will bring together the diverse experiences of organizers from all over the country to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and form connections that will strengthen the poetry community. Registrants are asked to submit a brief outline of their experience with poetry event organizing at the time of registration.
Saturday, October 12, 2024 | 2pm ET
Free for members | $10 for non-members
Discounts are available for Black, Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQI2S+, and disabled poets using the coupon code IDEA2024.
The League does not tolerate discrimination or hate speech, including microaggressions, and any attendees engaging in bad-faith discussion around issues such as diversity, participant safety, accessibility, and equitability will be removed from the workshop. We encourage attendees to ask tough questions, but to remain respectful of the diversity of lived experience among participants.
This session will be recorded and available to members and registrants following the event; however, live participants will uniquely benefit from the opportunity to engage in discussion with Bänoo and other organizers.
Bänoo Zan
Bänoo Zan is a poet, translator, essayist, and poetry curator, with over 300 published pieces and three books including Songs of Exile and Letters to My Father. She is the founder of Shab-e She’r (Poetry Night), Canada’s most diverse and brave poetry open mic (inception 2012). It is a brave space that bridges the gap between communities of poets from different ethnicities, nationalities, religions (or lack thereof), ages, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, poetic styles, voices, and visions. Bänoo is the co-editor of the international poetry anthology: Woman, Life, Freedom: Poems for the Iranian Revolution, to be published by Guernica Editions in 2025.
This workshop is presented by the LCP Webinar Series.
