Nest Construction

By Lin Lune

give woodpeckers a jackhammer

gulls loose with a bullhorn

signalling backup alarms for the tandem rotor hawk

parting a flock of diesel piston doves

while the silent owl site manager radar jams the entire spectrum with a sonar that tremors

the hammocks

of our nest in our burrows

underground in the darkness

we turn off our hearing aids

and resume weaving baskets

hand to hand touching faces

to keep warm precious charges

until the birds finish playing with their new toys and remember to come back for their eggs.
