Piano

My piano, always in one corner,
unassuming, demure;
finished with the friction
of relocation and small children,
ivory keys patinaed by
a thousand fingerprints.
No fancy scrollwork,
no internal electronics.
A birdcage of strings
and felted hammers that release
the roundest sounds, strike the ears
tenderly.
Ringing through eardrums,
tiny bones, down neural pathways
to caress the brain with
the murmuration of birds.
