things i never thought i’d tell myself
By Valerie Wong
unemployment looks good on you. you seem lighter now that the hammer’s finally landed on your head.
no one chooses the earthquake, the burn or the illness. and yet. you wear the ache like a medal. waded
through the maelstrom of a life interrupted, emerging in a bouquet of emotion. the feeling beyond
reproach. now, glowing with a lack of encumbrance. drunk with possibility. you look like warmth gone
wild. you are arriving.
