Colleen Thibaudeau Award 2015

Poet Glen Sorestad has been named the forth recipient of the League of Canadian Poets’ Colleen Thibaudeau Outstanding Contribution Award.

Established in memory of the late poet and honourary member Colleen Thibaudeau (1925-2012), this award has been created by the League of Canadian Poets and the poet’s family to honour and recognize a substantial volunteer project or series of projects that significantly nurture and support poets and poetry across Canada.

Glen Sorestad has very generously and enthusiastically volunteered his time to the future publication of the Anne Szumigalski lectures collection, Measures of Astonishment. He wrote the preface, contacted and met with the University of Regina Press about its publication and helped the League with numerous small details surrounding its publication. Wearing many hats, he has always been a willing and dedicated volunteer for the League of Canadian Poets.

Glen Sorestad is a much published poet from Saskatchewan who has had over 20 volumes of his poems appear since 1975, the latest, A Thief of Impeccable Taste in 2011, a bilingual, English/Spanish edition and a chapbook, Along Okema Road in 2013. Sorestad’s poetry has appeared in literary publications, in print and online, all over North America and elsewhere. His poems have appeared in over 60 anthologies and textbooks and have been translated into over a half-dozen languages, most recently into Afrikaans and Italian. Sorestad has read his poetry in every Canadian province, in almost twenty states of the U.S., as well as in France, Norway, Finland, Slovenia and in Cuba. A Life Member of the League of Canadian Poets and the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild, Sorestad is also a Member of the Order of Canada. He and his wife Sonia have lived in Saskatoon for 45 years.
